Web Developer Internship

My experience as an intern at Division of Student Affairs.

I've been a Web Developer Intern at Division of Student Affairs (formerly Division of Undergraduate Education) since July 2025. My day to day work consists of checking ServiceNow incidents and Bsaecamp tasks and completing changes needed. I've also worked on improvements to our custom applications, including a new University College Majors tool and work to modernize the ePortfolio Showcase application to add new features.

ServiceNow

ServiceNow is a platform designed to support IT service management, but to us, it's simply where requests come into our department in the form of incidents. We typically claim an incident by putting the incident number we are doing in a shared chat. Incidents can have additional comments added, which are shared with the client, as well as work notes which are internal notes to our department. We receive requests for web updates from offices supported by our department.

Basecamp

Basecamp dashboard showing 9 open projects and 1 open task. There is a large fish overlaid on a POV of Magnum XL-200 at Cedar Point in the center of the dashboard.

Basecamp is a project management software used in our department. Tasks separate from those received in ServiceNow are assigned and tracked within Basecamp. We also store documentation for our department as well as teams within our department in Basecamp, such as our department style guide.

WCMS

WCMS is Indiana University's hosted instance of Cascade CMS, a CMS developed by Hannon Hill. It supports creating sites with IU Framework, and soon, IU Site Builder. Pages are built out of sections, which are composed of chunks that content is added in.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Salesforce Marketing Cloud is how our department sends mass emails to people at IU Indianapolis. Emails are built with the Email Design Library, which has content blocks that work similarly to IU Framework chunks used in WCMS.

GitHub

GitHub is a git hosting forge that all of our codebases are stored in and is used for version control and collaboration with issues and pull requests. For our applications on AppKube, GitHub Actions automatically build and deploy to both our testing and production instances.
